The "Fingerprint" series of products for ACME Studio is a humorous commentary on the desire of people everywhere to retain evidence of their uniqueness in a world where escalating technology is destroying most opportunities to retain one’s personal identity. In a world of digital connections, mass media, faceless apartment towers, and mega-malls, the fingerprint is becoming the last available symbol of individuality (albeit, mostly associated with police work). The ACME pen, watch, card case and tie use the fingerprint image as a white on black graphic, which suggests that even this traditional source of identification is receding into a negative dimension. It is assumed, however, that merely by possessing, using, and/or wearing these products, the customer will stand out in the crowd.
