Melting Candlestick for Swid/Powell
1985
The Melting Candlestick in silver is intended to compensate for the fact that today's "drip less" candles fail to provide the attraction of melting surfaces. Since cascades of wax are considered by most people to be romantic and evocative, this product design restores the tradition as part of the candelabrum itself, while still taking advantage of scientific advances in contemporary candle making. In keeping with the nature of SITE's design commentary in architecture, the selection of a Corinthian column is the object's source of reflex identification and the target of humorous commentary on the tradition of classically themed candlesticks.
