Casa Fabiani

Nebbiuno, Novara, Piemonte, Italy, 2000

The villa is situated on the crest of a mountain, overlooking Lake Maggiore and the Swiss Alps. The orientation of the plan is intended to take advantage of east and southeast panoramic views. This two thousand square meter villa is designed in response to the client’s vision for a place full of air and light - a house that seems perched for flight on the edge of the hillside. For this reason, the roof is composed of a series of undulating, wing-like structures that emerge from the ground surface (partially covered with landscape) and then fan outward over the mountain precipice. While the client wants his residence to include the most advanced structural, environmental, and digital technology, he also sees it as totally integrated with the surrounding environment - including regional building materials and typical vegetation. Functionally, the the villa includes very large social areas, an indoor swimming pool, sweeping deck space, guest rooms, a small apartment, a state-of-the-art computer office, and ample guest parking.
